COLOMBO (News1st); State Minister of Power and Energy Indika Anuruddha Herath said there is a possibility to reduce electricity tariffs in May.
Speaking during a media briefing at the President's Media Center on Tuesday (30), the State Minister said an electricity tariff revision is due in May, and accordingly the relevant data will be sent to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).
He added that the data will include the costs incurred by each power plant.
State Minister Indika Anuruddha said the government hopes to grant concessions to the people, through the benefit it gains with 120MW added to the power grid through the Uma Oya Multi Purpose Deveopment project.
The State Minister said as a result of the 120MW added to the grid, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) can cut down on the diesel used to generate the same amount of electricity during the night time.
He added that any individual can look into it as it is a transparent process, and make the calculations if they wish to do so.
