COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan law enforcement agencies in collaboration with the Police Special Task Force and the three-armed froces have launched a comprehensive security program aimed at safeguarding Islamic Mosques across the island, during Ramazan.
The initiative, guided by the instructions of Inspector General of Police Deshbandu Tennakoon, seeks to ensure a peaceful and secure environment during this festive period.
The security program is a joint effort involving the police, the Special Task Force, and the armed forces.
Authorities have meticulously crafted a special security plan by engaging with Mawlavis (religious leaders) from all Islamic Mosques within each police jurisdiction.
A total of 5,580 police officers have been strategically deployed to oversee security at 2,453 locations where religious services are held.
These efforts cover 3,203 Islamic Mosques across the island.
In addition to police personnel, the security program includes 510 specially trained police Special Task Force officers and 1,260 tri-forces officers.
