Rohitha Takes Helm as COPE Chair

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Member of Parliament Rohitha Abeygunawardena assumed the position of Chairman for the Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises or COPE. 

He was elected as COPE Chair by majority vote.

This afternoon, the names of two parliament members, Rohitha Abeygunawardena and Gamini Valeboda, were put forward for the chairmanship of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE).

Rohitha Abeygunawardena was nominated by Member of Parliament Mahindananda Aluthgamage and confirmed by Member of Parliament Sanjeeva Edirimanna.

Gamini Valeboda was proposed by Member of Parliament Hesha Withanage and confirmed by Dilan Perera.

In the voting process, Rohitha Abeygunawardena secured the position of chairman with a majority of votes. 

Prior to this, Professor Ranjith Bandara held the chairmanship of the COPE before the propogation of the house.
