Maharagama Seetha: Investigations into the shooting of the elephant launched

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Investigations have been launched into the shooting incident of Maharagama Seetha, a female tusker that participated in the perahera of the Mahiyanganaya Rajamaha Viharaya.

The 47-year-old Maharagama Seetha was shot while chained in the temple premises, following the Perahera.

Director General of Wildlife Chandana Suriyabandara, stated that an investigation has been launched in the ministry level regarding the shooting.

Treatment for gunshot wounds has already commenced.

The Mahiyanganaya police said a civil defense force officer has been arrested in connection with the incident.
