Flood risks loom in some areas

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Irrigation Department has reported that the Nilwala River has reached the minor flood level in the Panadugama. 

Director of the Hydrology and Disaster Management Division of the Irrigation Department SPC Sugeeshwara, says that the Attanagalu Oya in Dunamale, Gin  River in Baddegama, and Kuda River in Millakanda are also at levels that require attention.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast indicating that occasional rain or thundershowers may occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, South, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. 

The department added that certain areas in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts, may experience heavy rains of up to 100 mm.
