Police Sergeants Remanded Over Assault Leading To Surgical Removal of Victim's Testicle

COLOMBO (News 1st); Two police sergeants have been remanded until the 27th following their alleged involvement in the brutal beating of a young man, which resulted in the surgical removal of one of his testicles.

The victim, a 23-year-old man residing in Medavachiya Tulavelliya, underwent surgery at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital after reportedly being assaulted by police during a routine vehicle inspection. The severity of the injuries necessitated the removal of one of his testicles.

The police sergeants from Padaviya and Kebithigollewa Police were presented before Medavachchiya Magistrate Imesha Dharmadasa. The court ordered to remand them in custody pending further investigation.

Additionally, the Magistrate instructed the Criminal Investigation Department to apprehend another police sergeant who is accused in the incident but has evaded arrest.

The Magistrate denied bail to three other police officers currently in jail. Among them is the former OIC of the Medawachchiya Police's anti-corruption division and two sergeants attached to the Traffic Police division.
