COLOMBO (News 1st); Nearly a hundred people have been arrested by the Department of Wildlife Conservation within a month for entering protected areas and engaging in illegal activities.
Its media director Hasini Sarathchandra said, 57 raids were conducted during that period.
She further stated that the highest number of raids have been carried out in the southern wildlife zone, in relation to hunting, sand mining, and tree felling.
Most of the raids were related to poaching.
Meanwhile, she also said that about 10 acres of the Ravana Falls sanctuary was destroyed in a wildfire.
