Approval Granted for UGC to Recruit New University Lecturers

COLOMBO (News 1st): The University Grants Commission has been granted permission to recruit new lecturers for universities.

The Chairman of the Commission, Professor Kapila Seneviratne, stated that this agreement was reached following discussions with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

Two rounds of discussions had been held regarding the recruitment of new lecturers, during which it was agreed to hire lecturers for 50% of the existing vacancies.

These vacancies had been created in state universities due to many university lecturers going abroad for various reasons.

The Chairman further stated that there is a shortage of lecturers for the newly established medical faculties as well.
