Who Was Found Guilty and Who Was Acquitted in Easter Sunday Case

COLOMBO (News 1st); Fifteen accused have been found guilty and nine others acquitted in the landmark Easter Sunday terror attacks case, which was heard under 23,270 charges relating to conspiracy, aiding and abetting the 2019 attacks.

The verdict was delivered by the three-judge Trial-at-Bar comprising Judges Navaratne Marasinghe, Ramanathan Kannan and Sujeewa Nissanka.

The case had been filed against 24 accused, including Naufar Maulavi, over their alleged involvement in the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks that devastated churches and hotels across Sri Lanka on April 21, 2019.

The 17th accused, Yaseem Bawa Abdul Rauff, has died.

The verdict brings to a close one of the largest and most complex criminal trials in Sri Lanka's history. Proceedings lasted for nearly five years before concluding on August 24 this year.

A total of 23,270 charges were filed against the accused, while 2,309 witnesses testified for the prosecution, underscoring the scale and significance of the case.
