COLOMBO (News 1st) - The X-Press Pearl shipping company has reached an agreement to transfer the case to the Singapore International Commercial Court, as confirmed by the Attorney General's Department. Under an unconditional agreement, the Singapore court has ordered the handover of the case documents, filed by the Sri Lankan government in Singapore for compensation, to the shipping company's attorneys during Saturday's (08) court hearing.
The documents are to be provided on the 14th day following the order. Meanwhile, the compensation claim limit ruling issued by a UK court has been temporarily suspended. The Attorney General's Department added that no order has been issued by the UK court against the Sri Lankan government.
Furthermore, representatives from the special team appointed with the Cabinet of Ministers' approval to discuss agreements related to the damages caused by the X-Press Pearl disaster are scheduled to travel to Singapore on the 17th of July for two days of negotiations.
