Colombo (News 1st) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called Thursday (27th) for urgent action to halt what he called "An Era of Global Boiling", as scientists provided evidence that the impact of man-made climate change has made July 2023 the hottest month on Earth for 120,000 years.

U.S. President Joe Biden joined in the chorus of world leaders calling the soaring temperatures an “existential threat”.

"Climate change is here. It is terrifying. And it is just the beginning. The era of global warming has ended; the era of global boiling has arrived", UN Chief Antonio Guterres said in New York.

"For the entire planet, it is a disaster. We can still stop the worst. Accelerating temperatures demand accelerated #ClimateAction. It is still possible to avoid the very worst of climate change, but only with dramatic, immediate #ClimateAction," Guterres tweeted.

"The consequences are tragic: Children swept away by monsoon rains. Families running from the flames. Workers collapsing in scorching heat. No more hesitancy or excuses. #ClimateAction - now," Guterres, who will host a climate summit in September declared.

“The air is unbreathable. The heat is unbearable. And the level of fossil fuel profits and climate inaction is unacceptable. Leaders must lead. No more hesitancy. No more excuses. No more waiting for others to move first,” Guterres declared.
