COLOMBO (News 1st); The International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem is celebrated every year on July 26.

This annual observance was adopted by the General Conference of the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2015.

These salt-tolerant trees and shrubs are a critical link between land and sea, providing a plethora of ecological and socio-economic benefits.

As climate change continues to impact our planet, understanding the importance of mangroves and their susceptibility to climate-induced changes is crucial in safeguarding these coastal guardians for future generations.
