COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Health informed private pharmacies to refrain from selling the two discontinued types of 75mg Aspirin drug used for heart patients.

Health Secretary Janaka Sri Chandragupta said the stocks should be returned to the places it was purchased from.

It was recently confirmed that one of the ingredients in the 75mg Aspirin drug used for heart patients is substandard.

The Health Ministry said the salicylic component should be at 2%, but it was revealed that its presence was at 2.7% in the 75mg Aspirin drug.

The Health Secretary said laboratory tests confirmed that the Aspirin ingredient is of proper levels.

The use of two batches of the drug was temporarily suspended due to an issue that arose regarding the prescribed specifications of the drug.

The Health Secretary said that if the discontinued Aspirin drugs are confirmed to be up to standard following lab tests, permission will be granted for its use.
