Sword-Wielding Suspect Shot During Police Raid in Galle

COLOMBO (News 1st); A tense confrontation unfolded in the Thelikada area of Galle when police officers were forced to open fire on a suspect who allegedly attempted to attack them with a sword during a raid on an illegal liquor operation.

According to Police Spokesperson SSP Buddhika Manatunga, officers had received intelligence about an illicit alcohol distribution network operating out of a private residence in the area. 

Acting on the tip-off, a team of officers was dispatched to investigate the premises.

As the officers began inspecting the house, a man inside reportedly became aggressive and attempted to assault them with a bladed weapon. In response, police discharged two rounds to subdue the suspect.

The suspect sustained gunshot wounds to his knee and forearm and was immediately transported to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for treatment.
