COLOMBO (News 1st); A second round of political discussions took place on Thursday (15) evening at a luxury hotel in Kollupitiya, Colombo, involving several parties that had previously met with former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The meeting was attended by a delegation from the United National Party (UNP) led by General Secretary Thalatha Athukorale, along with representatives from several allied parties of the Samagi Jana Sandhanaya.
However, key parties such as the **Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), who were present at the earlier discussion with Wickremesinghe, were notably absent from the gathering.
According to sources close to the talks, participants reached a consensus to hold a follow-up meeting with Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in the coming days.
It is reported that discussions are part of a broader effort to form strategic alliances in municipal and local government councils, where the National People's Power does not hold authority
