Schools reopen amidst dengue prevention measures

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The third phase of the first school term commenced today (12) for all government and government-approved schools.

On May 26th, schools were granted vacations in light of the G.C.E. O/L Examination that took place. The Sri Lanka Transport Board has announced that school students will be issued tickets until the 14th of June.

Similarly, the Railways Department has stated that train tickets will be available for students until the 16th of June. Regarding dengue prevention measures, Dr. Asela Gunawardena, the Director General of Health Services, says that educational authorities have been informed about the necessary precautions to be taken with the reopening of schools.

The National Dengue Control Unit has urged parents to apply suitable mosquito repellents on their children's exposed skin before sending them to school. As of now, there have been a total of 42,961 reported dengue cases so far this year, with 25 reported deaths during the same period.
