Ready to build nuclear plant in Sri Lanka if Govt gives permission - Russian Ambassador

COLOMBO (News 1st); Russia is prepared to enter into an agreement to build a nuclear power plant in Sri Lanka if the Sri Lankan government grants permission, said Levan S. Dzhagaryan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka.

The Russian Ambassador noted that he met with the Minister of Power and Energy in Sri Lanka and several other high ranking officials for discussion on constructing a nuclear power plant in Sri Lanka.

According to reports, the discussions centered around the construction of a 110 MW small nuclear power plant.

The Russian Ambassador noted that the Russian Federation is prepared to provide Sri Lanka with financial or technical support for the construction of the nuclear power plant if the local government approves the plans.

The Ambassador said that he is prepared to link Sri Lankan officials with experts for further discussions.
