COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Galle district has been placed under early landslide warnings, as announced by the National Building Research Organization (NBRO). Residents in the Baddegama, Elpitiya, Nagoda, and Yakkalamulla divisional secretariats have been alerted to the potential risks associated with landslides.
In response to the warnings, authorities temporarily closed down one lane of the Uva Paranagama-Daragala road in the Welimada section following a reported landslide in the area. This precautionary measure ensures the safety of commuters and minimizes potential hazards.
Furthermore, the Meteorological Department forecasts showers or thundershowers in several locations within the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Eastern, and Uva provinces during the evening or night. The combination of heavy rainfall and geological conditions heightens the possibility of landslides in vulnerable areas.
