G. L. Peiris removed from post of Chairman of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna

COLOMBO (News 1st); Senior Professor, Ven. Uthurawala Dhammarathana thero has been appointed as the new chairman of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna at the General meeting of the SLPP held today.

The annual general meeting of the SLPP for the year 2023 was held this morning and was chaired by the leader of the party, former President Mahinda Rajapakse at the party headquarters.

The chairman of the SLPP, Prof. G.L. Peiris did not participate in the general meeting.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting, General Secretary of the SLPP, Att. at law. Sagara Kariyawasam, said, the decision to remove the former chairman was made because "Prof. G.L. Peiris had been neglecting his duties as the chairman."

Senior Professor Ven. Uthurawala Dhammarathana Thero was the previous chairman of the Sri Lanka Jathika Peramuna, the predecessor of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, and was the natural choice to take up the position according to General Secretary, Sagara Kariyawasam.
