COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Eye Hospital of Sri Lanka has suspended surgeries with immediate effect.
The decision was taken after the Health Ministry issues a notice to all hospital directors via WhatsApp to suspend the use of Prednisolone imported from India with immediate effect.
A spokesperson for the Health Ministry said there was suspicion that the eye drops contained a germ harmful to the eye, and until all medication belonging to the said bath of eye drops are individually tested, the use of Prednisolone will suspended.
The National Eye Hospital Branch of the Government Medical Officers' Association noted that several patients had experienced complications after the said eye drops were used.
However, an inquiry is underway to determine how the surgery room was affected.
