COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Cabinet of Ministers have decided that Galle Face Green will ONLY be used as a site for the public to spend their time in an undisturbed manner.
A document from the Department of Government Information noted that with effect from Thursday (20), Galle Face Green will NOT be made available for any musical festival, political meetings or other mass gatherings except for religious events.
It added that the Sri Lanka Ports Authority had taken up the task of developing Galle Face Green as a CSR project at a cost of Rs. 220 Million.
It added that Rs. 6.6 Million was spent on renovations following the damages caused to Galle Face Green during the Aragalaya (struggle) period.
It noted that it has become impossible to maintain the beauty of Galle Face Green due to mass gatherings, and thus with effect from 20th April 2023, Galle Face Green will only be used for religious events.
