Death toll climbs above 50,000 after Türkiye, Syria earthquakes

COLOMBO (News 1st) - According to the most recent figures, the death toll from the earthquakes that struck Türkiye and Syria earlier this month has surpassed 50,000.

The earthquakes killed 44,218 people in Türkiye alone, while the most recent death toll in Syria was 5,914.

Nearly 240,000 rescue workers, including volunteers, are still working in Türkiye's 11 earthquake-affected provinces.
