COLOMBO (News 1st); The highest rainfall was reported from Bentota Watte in Galle, in the 24 hours that ended at 8.30 am on Monday (04).

160.5mm of rainfall was recorded in the area.

The Department of Meteorology said cyclonic storm “MIGJAUM” is expected to intensify further and move northwestward away from Sri Lanka towards North Tamil Nadu coast of India. 

It added thereafter, the system would move northwards and cross South Andhra Pradesh coasts tomorrow. 

The Met. Department predicted showers or thundershowers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Northern, Southern and North-western provinces, with fairly heavy showers above 75mm likely in some places.

Landslide warnings have been issued in three districts, due to heavy showers.

The National Building Research Organization said landslide warnings were issued in several divisional secretariats in the Kalutara, Ratnapura and Kandy districts.

The Department of Irrigation said the Gin River is at a flood level in Thawalama, and the water levels are on the rise.
