COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has announced ambitious plans to expand its public bus fleet with the purchase of 200 new buses in 2024.
SLTB Chairman Lalith de Alwis highlighted the pressing need for additional buses, particularly for long-distance routes.
He estimated a total requirement of 600 buses to effectively serve passengers seeking intercity travel solutions.
The decision to prioritize long-distance services stems from the success of the SLTB's online seat reservation program for these routes.
The initiative, implemented this year, has generated nearly 30 million in operational profit.
Currently, the SLTB utilizes a fleet of approximately 600 buses dedicated to long-distance travel.
