President Ranil Wickremesinghe has granted presidential pardons to prisoners, in line with Christmas.
Prisons Commissioner and Spokesperson Gamini B. Dissanayake said that pardon will be granted subject to terms and conditions.
Some prisoners will be granted a pardon of one month in their setence, for every year they have served in prison.
Inmates arrested for non-payment of fines will be pardoned.
The Department of Prisons said inmates above the age of 65 years who have served more than half their sentence, will be pardoned.
Inmates who were sentenced for 40 years, and have served 20 or more years will be pardoned.
Those at rehabilitation centres, who have completed half or more than their rehab period, will be pardoned.
