SLPP Eyes 2024 Prez, Floats Businessman

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) said that four individuals have been proposed for the 2024 Presidential candidacy.

SLPP General Secretary Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam, revealed businessman Dhammika Perera as one of the potential candidates.

Sagara Kariyawasam, General Secretary of the SLPP, emphasized the party's focus on the upcoming polls. "We are taking all the necessary steps to face any upcoming elections very strongly," he declared.

While acknowledging that the SLPP provides "necessary strength" to the government in parliament, Kariyawasam made it clear that the party is not in full agreement with all its policies. 

"We do not want to embarrass the government and create an anarchy situation in this country. Therefore, even if we provide the necessary strength in the parliament to lead from this situation, we as a party must state that we do not have full agreement on some of these issues," he said.
