COLOMBO (News 1st); In a joint letter to the President, the Asgiri and Malwathu Mahanayake Theros have expressed concerns about the security of the Mihinthale Sacred Grounds, and urged to redeploy security forces to ensure its safety and development.
A joint letter by the Asgiri and Malwathu Mahanayake Theros emphasizes the immense religious and cultural significance of the Mihinthale Sacred Grounds, recognizing it as the cradle of the Mahavihara Theravada tradition and the birthplace of Sri Lankan Buddhist culture.
The Mahanayake Theros stressed to the government its responsibility to safeguard this valuable historical heritage, as it is duty bound to protect and nurture the Buddha Sasana.
The letter urges the President and relevant departments to work towards restoring the site's past glory and preserving it for future generations.
They specifically request the continued involvement of the Sri Lanka Army in the ongoing development activities within the Mihinthale Sacred Grounds.
The Mahanayake Theros also stressed on the consistent presence and intervention of the Civil Defense Department and the Sri Lanka Police to ensure the safety of pilgrims who visit the monastery complexes, inscriptions, and other archaeological remains scattered across the Sacred Grounds.
