COLOMBO (News 1st); The Seeduwa police apprehended four individuals for attempting to sell a collection of precious jewels valued at Rs. 20 million.
Acting on a tip-off, police officers launched a sting operation, posing as potential buyers and successfully apprehending the suspects.
Sri Lanka Police seized four precious Gaja Muktha (Gaja Muthu) or Elephant pearls, from the possession of the suspects.
The arrested individuals hail from Imaduwa, Welioya, Palugaswewa, and Pannipitiya.
Authorities confirmed that two of the suspects were deserters from the Sri Lankan Army.
They confirmed that the suspects and the small truck used in their alleged criminal activity will be presented before the Negombo Magistrate's Court later today.
