Sajith reveals assassination attempt on ex-CID Chief

COLOMBO (News 1st); Representatives of Sri Lanka's Attorney General's Department have informed a local court that information has come to light over an assassination attempt on Former Chief of the Criminal Investigations Department Shani Abeysekera, said Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa on Saturday (10).

He said the AGs Department representatives had told the court that Abeysekera was to be killed in a hit-and-run incident.

The Opposition Leader called on the government to provide adequate security to the Former Chief of the CID. 

Independent MP Wimal Weerawansa also expressed alarm that if a police officer is to be assassinated in such a manner, then lawmakers too are in danger.

He called on the speaker to summon the Attorney General to the house, and allow the MPs to obtain information from him on the accuracy of the submissions made to the court.
