COLOMBO (News 1st); Opposition lawmakers in Sri Lanka have requested the Ministry of Education to increase the monthly scholarship allowance awarded to the students who passed the Grade 5 scholarship examination.
The request was made when Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha commented on the results of the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination, which were released on Thursday (16) night.
MP Dullas Alahapperuma requested that the Rs. 750/- monthly allowance awarded to students who passed the Grade 5 scholarship examination be increased to Rs. 1,000/-.
In addition, he requested for the number of scholarships awarded to be increased from 20,000 to 30,000.
