Five passengers dead in Colpetty tragedy

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Five people died and seven were injured in a tragedy on Duplication Road (R.A. De Mel Mawatha) in Colpetty when a tree fell on a bus on Monday morning.

The Mathugama bound bus had stopped near Liberty Roundabout to pick up passengers when the tree fell, crushing it.

Deputy Director of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka Dr. Rukshan Bellana said seven people are receiving treatment at the hospital.

A group of passengers who were trapped in the bus were freed by rescuers including police and relief teams.
