Former Lanka Mineral Sands Chairman Arrested Over Rs. 34.4M Corruption Case

COLOMBO(News 1st): Udeni Jayaratne Dassanayake, former Chairman of Lanka Mineral Sands Limited, has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

The arrest was made in connection with an investigation into recruitment of workers for casual laborer positions outside the approved procedure during the years 2023/2024 exceeding the sanctioned limit for labor positions at Lanka Mineral Sands Limited thereby causing a loss of Rs. 34,438,650.42.

He is accused of committing the offense of corruption by arranging the payment of salaries to these casual workers, thereby providing them an unlawful advantage.

The suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
