'Ranil became PM to protect Rajapaksas' - Shanakiyan

COLOMBO (News 1st); TNA Parliamentarian Shanakiyan Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam said that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has betrayed the Galle Face People's Protest.

Speaking in Parliament on Friday (20), he said that Wickremesinghe had betrayed the whole of Sri Lanka to achieve his dream of becoming a six-time Prime Minister.

"It was clear to us that Gotabaya Rajapaksa was about to resign. He was cornered and the country was aware. The Samagi Jana Balavegaya as a party with a policy said the President must step down, and they would accept the government when he resigns. The JVP also echoes the same," he told the house adding that Ranil Wickremesinghe with no condition whatsoever accepted the post of Prime Minister.

"You (Ranil Wickremesinghe) accepted the post to protect the Rajapaksa family," he said.

Shanakiyan Rajaputhiran Rasamanickam went on to note that the Prime Minister, just as he revealed the true state of the economy to the country, must also reveal to the people the deals he struck with the Rajapaksas.

He said the first deal was the deal to bring out Gotabaya Rajapaksa who was in hiding inside a bunker.

The second deal is to facilitate Namal Rajapaksa and Mahinda Rajapaksa, who were hiding at a Navy Camp, to enter Parliament.

He also said that Ranil Wickremesinghe created the opportunity for Basil Rajapaksa to show that he controls the SLPP, even during the vote for the Deputy Speaker in Parliament.
