COLOMBO (News1st); The All-Ceylon Bakery Owners' Association has announced a price increase of Rs. 5.00 for bakery products, including bread, effective from midnight today.
Association President N. K. Jayawardena says that the decision follows the recent Rs. 13.00 per kilogram increase in the price of wheat flour.
N. K. Jayawardena, President of the All Ceylon Bakery Owners' Association said an increase of five rupees on a standard 450-gram loaf of bread and all short eats, will come into effect from midnight today.
He says that the decision was unavoidable given current economic pressures, extending sincere regrets to bakery owners for the delay in implementing the necessary revisions.
N. K. Jayawardena further explained that as a responsible administrative body, the organization could not act without proper consultation, having formally engaged the government and relevant authorities while allowing a ten-day period for potential intervention.
However, since no resolution was reached within that timeframe, the price adjustment had to proceed. He added that the situation was not the fault of the government or flour suppliers, but rather a direct consequence of ongoing global conflicts and market disruptions beyond local control.
