Another round of discussions regarding legislative amendments to enable overseas Sri Lankans to vote in elections was held yesterday.
The meeting was held between officials of the Election Commission and the committee appointed to look into and make recommendations on voting for overseas Sri Lankans.
Commissioner General of Elections Rasika Peiris stated that voter registration for expatriates was discussed at length. He added that a framework is scheduled to be drawn up starting next year in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He further noted that deliberations are ongoing to determine the voting mechanism—whether through advance voting, postal voting, or another suitable method which will be formally proposed and finalized in due course.
