COLOMBO (News 1st): Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today ordered that two people, including the wife of former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena, who were arrested by the Bribery Commission, be remanded further until the 30th.

This is in connection with an incident where they allegedly offered a bribe to an office assistant at the Colombo High Court to influence a judge into giving her husband a suspended prison sentence.

The Magistrate also ordered the release of the third suspect in the case, the Registrar of the Minuwangoda Magistrate's Court, on two personal bails of Rs. 1 million each.

The order was issued after the Bribery Commission produced the three suspects before the court and presented their submissions.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court had previously ordered on the 6th that the three suspects, including Sarana Gunawardena's wife, be remanded until October 20.
