Court Grants Bail to Sanjaya Samarasinghe, Imposes Foreign Travel Ban

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today ordered the release on bail of Sanjaya Samarasinghe, who served as a coordinating secretary to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He was produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today after being arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) last night.

The suspect was arrested after failing to disclose the source of Rs. 1.8 million found inside a safe seized from his residence by the Bribery Commission.

The Chief Magistrate ordered his release on two personal sureties of Rs. 1 million each and also imposed a travel ban on him.

The case is scheduled to be taken up again on December 10.
