COLOMBO (News 1st); The activities of the Pathahewaheta Pradeshiya Sabha, which was under opposition control, have been temporarily suspended.
The decision was taken considering the failure to maintain public services and execute public projects.
Central Province Governor, retired Community Medicine Specialist Dr. Harsha Suranga Fernando, stated that the decision was made taking into account several inefficiencies, including the Non-utilization of Rs. 718 million in funds for public services, Failure to execute projects despite purchasing water pipes worth Rs. 40 million, and Disapproval of Rs. 18.5 million allocated for public services.
Administration of the Pradeshiya Sabha has since been handed over to Assistant Commissioner of Local Government A.W.G.L. Attanayake.
The council's former chairman, K. S. B. Rajanayake of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), is currently serving a prison sentence over an ongoing court case. Prior to the suspension, Piyal Jayasinghe of the Sarvajana Balaya party had been serving as acting chairman.
