COLOMBO (News 1st): President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasized those who once believed they were beyond the reach of the law are now becoming increasingly agitated as the law is being enforced against them.

Addressing the Badulla Women's Rally organized by the National People's Power under the theme "People's Rule: Two Years Strong – Progress for All", the President said individuals who enjoyed privileges and protection under the previous system are now protesting because they fear being held accountable for their crimes.

The President stressed that Parliament enacts laws, while institutions such as the Attorney General’s Department, the Bribery Commission, the CID and the Police carry out their respective responsibilities in enforcing them.

He further affirmed that the judiciary has the ultimate responsibility for delivering justice, with the Supreme Court exercising the country’s highest judicial authority.

The President maintained that judicial decisions must be respected rather than challenged through demands for their reversal.

He said the government respects the rulings of the judiciary and will abide by Supreme Court judgments, adding that no one should expect anything beyond that.

President Dissanayake emphasized that respecting the judicial process and ensuring equal treatment under the law are essential to building a country where children can live safely.
