Shiranthi Rajapaksa’s Anticipatory Bail Bid Rejected by Court

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Maligakanda Magistrate's Court today nullified an anticipatory bail application filed by Shiranthi Rajapaksa, advising that the petition be filed before a court with the appropriate jurisdiction.

Shiranthi Rajapaksa, is the wife of Former Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The application was taken up before Maligakanda Magistrate Janitha Perera, who directed that the anticipatory bail request be submitted to the relevant court within the proper territorial jurisdiction.

Shiranthi Rajapaksa is currently being held in remand custody until tomorrow in connection with allegations that she committed offences under the Public Property Act and corruption-related laws through the alleged misuse of Rs. 10 million obtained from a state bank.

She is presently being detained at the general women's ward of Welikada Prison.
