COLOMBO (News 1st) - Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa has been remanded until October 13 after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court this afternoon.
Shiranthi Rajapaksa was arrested earlier today by officers attached to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) at the Kirulapone residence where former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is currently staying.
The arrest was made over allegations that she obtained Rs. 10 million from a state-owned bank and committed offences under corruption laws and the Public Property Act through the alleged misuse of those funds.
Meanwhile, the court also ordered the release on bail of former state bank chairman Pradeep Kariyawasam, who had been arrested in connection with the same investigation.
