COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Colombo High Court has sentenced an Assistant Cultural Officer to three years of rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty on four charges, including soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 3,000 from a young woman after promising her employment at a cultural center.
The sentence was handed down by Colombo High Court Judge Mohamed Mihal while delivering the judgment in the case.
In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 23,000 on the convicted official.
The accused is a resident of the Hulandawa area in Monaragala.
According to the prosecution, the officer had solicited and accepted a bribe from a woman residing in Monaragala in exchange for facilitating employment at a cultural center.
The suspect was arrested by officers attached to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe on or around March 4, 2020.
