Namal Rajapaksa Allowed Home-Cooked Meals in Remand

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer and Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently being held in remand custody, has been granted permission to receive food brought from his residence.

Prisons Spokesman Senaka Palliyaguruge stated that a special security arrangement has also been implemented in and around the ward where Rajapaksa is being detained.

The Department of Prisons further stated that a maximum of three visitors per day will be allowed to meet him.

Namal Rajapaksa is currently being held at the Colombo Remand Prison.

Rajapaksa was remanded until September 18 after being arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The remand order was issued when he was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court on September 4.

He was arrested by the Bribery Commission in connection with an ongoing investigation into allegations that he accepted a bribe of Rs. 100 million relating to a transaction involving the purchase of aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.
