Online Railway Season Tickets to Be Extended to Private Sector From September

COLOMBO (News1st); Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake said that the online railway season ticket facility currently only available for personnel of the public sector will also be extended to personnel of the private sector.

The Minister mentioned that plans are in place to provide this facility to the private sector starting from September this year.

Additionally, the Minister also noted that steps will be taken in the future to dedicate a separate lane for motorcyclists to ensure transport safety.

Minister of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake expressed these views while attending a special press conference held in Parliament.

The Minister stated that a special transport program is being implemented to safeguard the lives of more than 2,700 citizens who die annually in road accidents.

He added that despite numerous road and bridge projects and strict law enforcement, it has not been possible to minimize fatalities caused by reckless driving.
