Helicopters, Troops Mobilized to Save Anawilundawa

COLOMBO (News 1st); A special joint operation involving the Tri-Forces has been launched to bring under control a fire that broke out at the Anawilundawa Ramsar Wetland Sanctuary, the Ministry of Environment said.

According to the Ministry, Sri Lanka Air Force helicopters have been deployed as part of the operation, with seawater being airlifted and released over affected areas in an effort to contain the blaze.

Authorities stated that the fire, which first erupted yesterday within the sanctuary, had continued to spread by today, prompting an intensified emergency response.
