Kalpitiya Canoe Tragedy Claims Lives Of Two Siblings

COLOMBO (News1st): A brother and sister from the same family have drowned after the canoe they were travelling in capsized in a lagoon in the Kurakkanhena area of Kalpitiya.

The victims have been identified as a seven-year-old girl and her 15-year-old brother.

The children were travelling by canoe with their father to retrieve fishing nets when the accident occurred.

Their father was also rescued and admitted to the Puttalam Hospital in critical condition after nearly drowning.

Meanwhile, a 52-year-old man has died after drowning while bathing in the sea near the Sati coastal area in Velanai, Kayts.

Police said the deceased was a resident of Kokuvil.
