COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Dengue Control Unit says a special mosquito control programme is being launched today in line with National Integrity Week.
Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, said the programme is being conducted jointly by the Ministry of Health and the Clean Sri Lanka initiative.
The programme will continue until July 31.
A Nationwide Dengue Control Campaign will also be carried out at all government institutions on July 31.
The programme will be coordinated through the operational committees established within government institutions.
Meanwhile, NDCU reports that 81,511 dengue cases have been recorded in Sri Lanka so far this year.
A total of 61 deaths have also been attributed to dengue.
The highest number of cases, with 21.7% of the country's total dengue infections have been reported from the Gampaha District.
