Additional Compensation For Families Of Officers Killed In Negombo Prison Clash

COLOMBO (News 1st): The government will provide additional compensation to the families of prison officers who were killed in the Negombo Prison clash.

The Department of Prisons said each family has received Rs. 500,000 in compensation.

Plans to provide further financial assistance are currently being prepared under the guidance of the Ministry of Justice and National Integration.

A total of eight prison officers were killed in the clash. They have also been posthumously promoted.

Meanwhile, the Department of Prisons says an investigation has commenced into the damage caused to prison property during the incident.

Department Spokesperson A.C. Gajanayake said the inquiry is being conducted under the leadership of a Senior Superintendent of Prisons.
