COLOMBO (News 1st);Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has launched an investigation into the recent violence at the Negombo Prison and subsequent incidents reported at other prison facilities.
The HRCSL emphasized that no conclusions have been reached regarding the matters under investigation, stating that evidence gathering, including statements from inmates and prison officials, is currently underway.
The Commission said that during visits to several prison facilities where Negombo inmates had been transferred, officers observed that several inmates had sustained injuries and that medical treatment had been delayed.
It added that recommendations were made to provide immediate medical attention, warning that any systematic delay in providing treatment could amount to a form of reprisal.
