Rs. 850 Mn Unsafe Sugar Haul Seized In Peliyagoda

COLOMBO (Newsfirst) - Four suspects have been arrested after authorities uncovered a massive stock of sugar unfit for human consumption valued at approximately Rs. 850 million during a raid in Pethiyagoda, Peliyagoda.

Police said the operation was carried out by officers of the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force following intelligence received regarding the illegal storage of food products.

During the raid, officers discovered a large quantity of sugar deemed unsuitable for consumption.

The suspects taken into custody are aged 43, 45, 47 and 61 and are residents of Kaduwela, Angoda, Piliyandala and Hatton.

Police stated that the Consumer Affairs Authority has also commenced separate investigations into the incident.
